The program makes sure that graduates are well-grounded in design fundamentals, spatial techniques, materials and design software which helps students function in the industry effectively. Principles, process and hands-on application are an integral part of their training. Open to graduates from any stream, the course is designed to impart design training in the spatial context to them while inculcating advanced concepts - exploring technology, life skills innovation and collaboration.
Program Curriculum
The Master of Design (M. Des.) in Interior Design program at Pearl Academy takes interior design learning to an advanced level, teaching students the art of designing spaces that are high on both form and function. Pearl Academy’s mode of education is hybrid. Students enrolled in the Master of Design (M. Des.) in Interior Design at Pearl Academy experience a dynamic learning environment that combines theoretical insights with hands-on practice. The two-year Master of Design (M. Des.) in Interior Design program at Pearl is designed to impart comprehensive education pertaining to the field in just two years.
The first year sees students learn design elements, construction techniques, residential spatial design, retail design and cultural contexts, followed by learning tools, technology as well as professional training.
The second year allows students to diversify their learning through design for furniture, building systems, sets and interior design as well as exploring the hospitality sector. Students engage deeply in design research and practice through a project-based approach, complemented by a summer internship and a capstone portfolio project. These components encapsulate their learning journey and demonstrate the proficiency of each student. A. The Master of Design (M. Des.) in Interior Design program is designed to produce industry-ready professionals with hands-on knowledge that goes way beyond theory. Interior designers often work on projects where they create interiors for built environments, ranging from residential to commercial spaces like offices, hotels, and restaurants. They create floor plans, develop forms, pick out furniture, supervise construction and renovation, and contribute to the final space by assisting with painting and accessorising.
Our curriculum spans two years, equipping students to explore diverse sectors of interior design. They learn to develop interior concepts, execute projects encompassing design, styling, materials, and construction requirements, and expand into related domains such as visualisation, merchandising, and conceptual remodelling projects. The curriculum is designed to cultivate the most valuable skills and professional practices in our students to prepare them for long term, growth-oriented careers in the Interior Design industry.

Students of the Master of Design (M. Des.) in Interior Design program at Pearl are able to choose between any of the domains taught to them, such as residential interiors, retail interiors, corporate, hospitality and more. They can also explore opportunities in furniture design or pursue unconventional programs such as event management, set design, visualisation, interior styling, and more. Graduates pursue opportunities in design studios, interior design firms, architecture firms and even construction companies, all of which have a high demand for their skills. In other domains, they may venture into event management firms and media houses as well. The course also trains students to be independent in their career and set up their own studio.

The course does not have prerequisites, accepting students of a variety of backgrounds. Candidates with an undergraduate degree in any field can apply to our M. Des. in Interior Design program – an important factor for those considering a career change to foray into a creative field.
A. Since the Master of Design (M. Des.) in Interior Design program is a postgraduate course, candidates are required to have an undergraduate degree in any field, from any stream, be it science, commerce, arts or others.
Candidates must clear the Pearl Academy Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and General Proficiency Test (GPT). They are also required to bring a portfolio of their creative work to the interview and showcase their skills.
The DAT evaluates a candidate's aptitude for creativity, drawing, designability, power of observation and imagination, sensitivity to environment and communication skills.
The GPT evaluates a candidate’s proficiency in the English language, logical reasoning, quantitative ability & data interpretation.
This is followed by a personal Interview conducted by Pearl Academy for admission into the Interior Design program, which includes a review of their portfolio.
If a candidate clears all three stages, they are welcomed into the Masters course in Interior Design!
A. The M. Des. in Interior Design program opens several doors to a range of career opportunities.After completing the program, graduates can pursue careers as interior decorators, art directors, stylists, property developers, and consultants in home interior design. These are just to name a few among many lucrative career streams that students have. They are also trained to work independently and have the option to open their own design practice.
By the end of their program, students will have the luxury to not only choose different kinds of roles but also in different industries. This gives them the flexibility to work in an industry they feel most in line with.
A. There are various scholarships offered by Pearl Academy for its M. Des. in Interior Design program. Our ‘Who’s Next’ Scholarship gives candidates the scope of being granted scholarships with a 20-100 % waiver in tuition fees every year. In addition to this, we also provide assistance to those seeking financial aid.
The scholarship is strictly merit-based and is granted on the basis of a student’s performance in the Pearl Entrance Exam. The scholarship is offered to both UG and PG students seeking admission in Pearl Academy.
