Fashion Design has developed from an upcoming to an established and much in demand career. It hiolds great potential of employment opportunities in the rapidly expanding designer label, luxury brands, apparel retail brands and ready – to – wear fashion industry, in addition the market also offers immense scope for fashion entrepreneurs to establish an enterprise with rising awareness of fashion and ever increasing interest in being well dressed.

In this competitive environment a fashion designer needs to be equipped with knowledge, skills and professional attitude to give shape to creative ideas through technical interpretation. It is also imperative that the designer is finely tuned into the needs of a market whether prêt or haute couture.

The 4-yrs BA (Hons.) in Fashion Design provides a thorough grounding in design development skills, fashion presentation, market knowledge, trend forecasting and guides students to select their area in women’s wear, men’s wear, sportswear, kid’s wear or knitwear.

LEVEL  1 : Basic Knowledge, Skills and Concepts

This level emphasizes on understanding of elements, principles and concepts of fashion design and colour, fashion materials and processes as well as 2D and 3D fashion visualization and realization technology. Students will be able to employ a range of skills for fashion design process – ideation, visualization, visual communication and presentation. Basic evaluative and investigative skills will be acquired to take the student to situate within the  industrial, social and contemporary environment.

LEVEL 2  : Application and Practice

This level provides design, technical, business and market oriented Projects to develop advance fashion capabilities, such as for contoured/structured wear., fashion presentation and promotion application. The student is,

further, initiated into the business, management and market context of fashion design. An industry internship in a focused area, along with optional learning experience at an approved institute, helps students to exercise autonomy to plan their curricular mix, should they choose the flexible path.

LEVEL 3 : Consolidation

This level ensures that students exploit their creative potential and acquire depth In various possible ways of engagement to sharpen commercial sensibilities, further honed by the analytical and problem-solving skills achieved during final work.

Portfolio

Students of FD have a unique opportunity to present juried collections through Portfolio, which has emerged as one of the most prestigious fashion shows in Delhi. The event showcases the students’ conceptual skills, creative talent, material and technical knowledge and market awareness. The show provides a fabulous platform to launch into a design career.
