India Tops the WOW Factor Award
Young Indians are making their mark in a big way in the world
of fashion. Their creativity is being recognized at the global
level. An imminent star in the fashion industry who has proved
his efficiency by winning the WOW factor award and shouldering
the credit of the first Indian student till date to achieve this
honour - N P Jayaraj, a final year student of B.A. Hons Fashion
Design programme at Pearl Academy of Fashion.
The Government of New Zealand organized this international design
competition. Organizers received about 3000 entries from all over
the world. Out of which about 155 entries were selected to showcase
their garment at the event in New Zealand. Ten Indian students’
designs were among the shortlised entries for the final fashion
show and Jayaraj, the PAF design student made it to the top and
won the ‘WOW Factor’ award. The award included an
all paid trip to New Zealand and a cash award of NS$5000 by Government
of New Zealand.
Talking about his collection, Jayaraj said “This competition
is a blend of art and fashion. So my inspiration was a weaverbird’s
nest as it’s a perfect example of creativity. I called my
garment – the weaver finch colony. I used coconut fibre
i.e coil and wove it into thin threads and then combined them
with the thin bamboo sticks to weave it like a net. And also used
cotton for lining and banana fibre for accessories”.

Architectural Review Awards
Pearl Academy of Fashion’s (PAF) new
campus coming up in Jaipur - Kukas has been awarded the Cityscape
Architectural Review Award in Environment Category. This International
award was a part of - Cityscape - the largest B2B event in the
global real estate industry.
Soon-to-be launched PAF Jaipur-Kukas campus
has been exclusively designed by renowned architects from “Morphogenesis”,
keeping in mind the needs and necessities of the young students.
With an outlay of more than Rs 30 crore, the campus is spread
over 3.2 acres of land and will provide excellent facilities to
students.
Pearl Academy of Fashion and WRAP present
a one-day Workshop on Social Compliances on 23rd February, 2008
Increasing pressures is being exerted from customers, the general
public, interest groups and governments, on companies to demonstrate
their commitment to ethical purchasing. In response, many businesses
have adopted WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production) principles
to specify fair and safe conditions with which their products
and services should be made. Recognising this Pearl Academy of
Fashion (PAF) and WRAP have joined hands to present a one-day
compliance workshop on 23rd February at PAF Naraina Campus, New
Delhi.
Mr Avedis Seferian, Director of Compliance Administration, WRAP,
who is also a licensed attorney in Virginia and member of the
American Bar Association, will be in India to deliver this training
workshop module.
The workshop will present an overview of local and national law;
social compliance system and social and ethical issues faced by
organizations. It will dwell on how to establish, maintain and
implement a social compliance system & benefits of social
systems certified company.
Compliance Managers and Production Managers of manufacturing
companies, export houses are slated to attend this workshop to
be held at PAF – Campus.
