Carpet Design Awards
New Delhi, May 5, 2006: To create awareness and encourage skill among aspiring designers on carpet design, Bholanath International Ltd. in collaboration with India’s leading fashion and retail institute, Pearl Academy of Fashion, organized “Carpet Design Awards”. The award was an initiative by Bholanath International Ltd., (BIL) leaders in producing and exporting carpets, to revolutionize the carpet designs for international markets. BIL has started creating the carpets designed by the winning students and will showcase it at world’s largest carpet fair – Domotex 2006.
Winning design swatches of BIL and PAF Carpet Design Awards were evaluated by a high profile jury of five international buyers during the Domotex fair held this year at Hanover, Germany.
Ms. Chhavi Kalani won the Golden Pearl Award– a cash award of Rs 10,000/- and an all paid trip to Domotex Fair 2007 - for her innovative style of using the colour palettes and on the fabric and market consideration. Her designs were displayed at the Domotex carpet fair.
Ms. Chhavi Kalani, Winner, Pearl Academy of Fashion, said, “This was an awesome experience that our designed carpets would be displayed in such a reputed event of world. This kind of exposure proves to be a benchmark for any aspirant. It was a lifetime opportunity for all of us to get practical know-how about the carpet sector and the design intricacies involved. From time to time, we participate in competitions and projects like this one at Pearl Academy, which I believe is essential for one’s career.”
Ms Nien Siao, Head of the Department - Design, Pearl Academy of Fashion, “This was indeed a good opportunity to integrate practical exposure of industry and market along with requirements of the academics. To top it all, the project was presented to the students in a challenging package, drawing out their competitive spirit and making the learning process fun and result oriented.”
In his Carpet Design brief to participants, Mr Bholanath Baranwal, Bholanath Industries Limited said, “The concept of carpet has revolutionized since last decade. Today, every yarn or handcraft technique is beingused in creating rugs and carpets. A designer should consider the end use of the product and technical handicraft limitation of converting a design into carpet.”
The students were given carpet specifications in terms of Collaterals, techniques, patterns, colours, fabric and functionality. The selected designs were brought to the stand of BIL in Domotex. In the process of research for new designs, students of Textile Design Management, Semester-V visited the BIL showroom in Delhi, their carpet manufacturing centres in Khamaria, woollen yarn spinning unit at Kachwa and weaving centres at Kanaksarai. |
