Pearl Academy of Fashion and Bunka University, Japan Tie Up for Joint Research Initiatives and Exchange Programmes

Pearl Academy of Fashion, (PAF), has joined hands with Japan’s Bunka University for a joint research initiative and student / faculty exchange programme . An MoU was signed between Satoshi Onuma , Vice Chairman of Bunka University and A.K.G. Nair , Group Director of PAF.

Faculty of both the institutions have shown keen interest in collaborative research in fashion and first group of faculty members of PAF will visit Bunka in January 2008 to explore possible areas of cooperation in fashion industry research . The first group students of Japan will visit India during the latter half of 2008 . The MoU aims to establish a platform for knowledge exchange, exposing budding designers to one of the Asia’s well- developed fashion industry and sharing Bunka’s eight decade Experience in Indian Fashion Education.


Pearl Academy to set up Residential Campuses in Chennai & Delhi by 2008

PAF Chairman Mr. Deepak Seth has donated 5-acres of land in Faridabad near Delhi and 3 – acres of land in Sriperumbudur in Chennai to develop full – fledged campuses for PAF by 2008. PAF is actively working to expand into Mumbai & Kolkota also by 2009.

PAF Jaipurias celebrate Valentine’s Day with a unique 3-D Card-Making competition

PAF (Jaipur) students of all courses and all levels of Fashion Design Indian Wear, Fashion Retail, Jewellery Design and Fashion Design showcased their creativity through 3-Dimensional Valentine’s cards. Students used a myriad of colours and explored innovative materials such as feather, aluminum sheets, jute, fresh flowers etc. to give the 3-D effect. They presented a collection of more than 60 Valentine ’s Day cards.

Here’s how PAF Delhi celebrated Valentine’s Day

PAF Delhi decided to do away with their usual music and dance party, roses and cakes and celebrated Valentine’s Day for a cause.

An initiative driven by the student’s cultural body - Plan Clan, PAF collaborated with an NGO called Goonj. Goonj is actively involved in developmental work for the underprivileged. PAF family collected and donated 100 kgs of flour, 35 kgs of rice, Rs 3100 in cash, 5 kgs of pulses, 12 new sarees for women and new clothes for men, loads of old clothes, shoes, books, 30 kgs of newspaper and 40 hardbound books from the library.

PAF’s upcoming Jaipur - Kukas campus has been recently awarded the Cityscape Architectural Review Award in Environment Category. The International awards were a part of cityscape -the largest B2B event in the global real estate industry.

 

Pearl Academy – Chennai hosts HR & Retail Conclave - “Empowering Retail Man Power”

Pearl Academy of Fashion – Chennai hosted HR & Retail Conclave -“Empowering Retail Man Power”, a two day Retail Conclave and Job Fair for students in Chennai on February 22nd and 23rd ’08 .

The Chief speakers of the programme were :

  • Mr. Haneef Sattar - Director - Genesis basics & Mr. A. K. G. Nair – Group Director, Pearl Academy of Fashion.

PAF organized this 2 day training programme especially for the students interested in taking a career in fashion retail. With this workshop, for the first time in South India, PAF brought together students from the areas of Fashion & Retail, Home science and Textile & Management who have a flair for a career in retail.

Day one of the programme witnessed speakers from the retail industry addressing students on emerging trends in fashion and exchanged views about the future of fashion branding. Day Two witnessed potential students interacting face-to-face with the future employers.

Pearl Academy of Fashion hosts PGCHE CONVOCATION - First design institute in the country to institutionalize pedagogic qualifications

Lauding Pearl Academy of Fashion’s (PAF) commitment to institutionalize and mandate pedagogic qualifications for its faculty, Prof V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Chairman, Distance Education Council and Vice Chancellor, IGNOU stated in his Convocation address “To me, no investment in faculty resource - is nill investment in education”. Prof Pillai was addressing the first Convocation of PAF’s Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) programme.

“It is extremely important for higher education institutes like Pearl Academy of Fashion to invest in capacity building of faculty by way of qualifications, using e technology into teaching and learning, skill up-gradation and international exposure to pedagogic techniques,” said Prof Pillai.

Mr A K G Nair, in his opening remarks stated, “With this Convocation, PAF becomes the first design institute in the country to have faculty in higher education with formal pedagogic qualifications. PGCHE, the eighteen-month programme, jointly launched by Pearl Academy of Fashion, India (PAF) and the Nottingham Trent University, UK in 2006 was designed for the development of faculty as reflective practitioners. Its main focus was on the study of education and teaching and learning; and an extensive use of online e-learning and e-assessment techniques.”

Pearl Academy of Fashion and WRAP present a one-day Workshop on Social Compliances

The customers, the general public, interest groups and governments are exerting increasing pressures on the manufacturing / retailing organizations to demonstrate their commitment to ethical purchasing. In response, many businesses have adopted WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production) principles to specify fair and safe conditions for their products and services. Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF) and WRAP jointly presented a one-day compliance workshop on 23rd February at PAF Naraina Campus, New Delhi.

Mr Avedis Seferian, Director of Compliance Administration, WRAP, who is also a licensed attorney in Virginia and member of the American Bar Association delivered this training workshop module.
The workshop presented an overview of local and national law; social compliance system and social and ethical issues faced by organizations. It dwelled on how to establish, maintain and implement a social compliance system & benefits of social systems certified company.
Compliance Managers and Production Managers of organizations including House of Pearl Fashions Limited, Orient Craft, Radhik Exports, TCNS and few more attended this workshop.
