LEARNING SUPPORT & FACILITIES

New batches commence with an Induction Programme that introduce you to the course, modules, assessments, study facilities, the pathway to your overall personality development and a general feel about your future work environment. The Induction Programme aims at familiarising you with :

The Academy's Vision and Quality Policy

  • Course Rationale and Objectives
  • Course Structure, and the rationale for the structure
  • Teaching and Learning strategies
  • Module Outcomes - how they are derived from the Course Objectives; and how they are linked to Assessment
  • Assessment strategy/ rules/ organisation
  • Functions and roles of Academic Board, Examination Board, Course Committee
  • Infrastructure and facilities provided them by the Academy

The Induction Programme also involves meetings with respective Course Leaders and Tutors, and the whole exercise is based on interaction and dialogue between you and your teachers in terms of the contents mentioned above, the learning expectations, and peer group familiarization.

The Course team headed by the Course Leader monitors your progress and development on a regular basis through necessary interaction with you. Lectures and discussions with respective course tutors draw significantly on the updated knowledge of the faculty which is gained through research, industry and institutional linkages.

Experts from the industry are invited for discussions on specific topics with you to make you aware of industry and to apprise you of needs, development and issues relevant to the present industry. Specialist lectures are arranged on team working, stress management, time management etc. at appropriate stages of the course for your overall personality development.

As you progress from basic levels to higher levels, advanced teaching and learning methodology is introduced. These include group tutorials (to encourage team working and self and peer evaluation); individual projects (to encourage you to initiate research, self study, and independently take decisions towards a conclusion); and relevant industry visits to support class room teaching with actual practice. Industry relevant projects and case studies are emphasised at higher levels to enable you to understand the application of taught aspects. Counselling sessions or guidance are provided to you in various projects at all levels.

The Industry Internship, which is mandatory for all courses (except for M.A. in Fashion Design) is monitored throughout its tenure by course tutors and evaluated along with the
intern organisation.

You are also given the opportunity for seminar presentations during your final semester, where appropriate industry experts are invited to critically evaluate the nature and direction of your project(s).

In general, in addition to regular classroom lectures and demonstrations, the teaching and learning also includes tutorials, project guidance, and workshops aimed at reinforcement and application of generic/cognitive skills in conjunction with specialist technical concepts, skills and understanding.
